✈️ Mestia Airport Getting a New Terminal: 15 Million Lari Tender Announced

Georgia's airports authority has announced a tender for a new passenger terminal at Queen Tamara Airport in Mestia.

The project is estimated to cost approximately 15.05 million GEL.

The new terminal will replace the existing building, which no longer meets the growing passenger demand. According to the project specifications, the new facility will be designed to handle roughly 50,000 passengers per year.

Tender proposals will be accepted between September 25–30, 2026.

Once a contractor is selected and the contract is signed, they will have up to 24 months to complete construction.

The new terminal design was developed by the architectural firm Green Studio. The project takes into account Svaneti's climate conditions, local architectural character, and the airport's existing infrastructure.

For Svaneti, this is an important infrastructure project for several reasons.

The new terminal will potentially:

• increase airport capacity

• improve passenger facilities

• strengthen domestic air service reliability

• support continued growth in tourism

• make Mestia more accessible for short trips from Tbilisi and other parts of the country

Talk of a new terminal has been ongoing for years, but the project is now moving into a more concrete phase with the tender for actual construction work.

If the procurement goes as planned and the contract is signed this year, construction could theoretically be completed within the next two years.

We'll be following the tender results and who wins the construction contract.
