Svaneti Itinerary — 3 Days

Three days is tight for Svaneti — here's the version that actually works, and what you'll need to skip.

Short answer: with 3 days, you have time for Mestia + Ushguli + one more highlight — realistically Koruldi Lakes or Chalaadi Glacier, not both. This itinerary assumes your arrival and departure both eat into the schedule, because on a trip this short, they do.

Day 1 — Arrive, settle into Mestia

Most people arrive via a transfer from Kutaisi (~4.5 hours) or Zugdidi (~2.5 hours) — see our how to get to Svaneti guide for the full comparison. Depending on when you leave, you'll likely land in Mestia by afternoon.

Use the rest of the day to walk the town itself — the Svan towers, the main square, dinner. Don't schedule anything active for this evening; travel days run long here.

Day 2 — Ushguli

This is the day to commit to. The Ushguli day tour is a full day (8–10 hours) by 4x4 along the Enguri valley to the UNESCO-listed tower villages under Mount Shkhara. Don't try to combine this with anything else — the road and the village both deserve the full day.

Day 3 — Koruldi Lakes (or Chalaadi Glacier), then departure

Pick one, based on your energy and your onward travel time:

  • Koruldi Lakes — half to full day, moderate effort, the payoff view of Mount Ushba
  • Chalaadi Glacier — half day, easy, a gentler morning if you're tired from Ushguli

Either works as a morning activity before an afternoon departure transfer. Build in buffer time — mountain roads don't run on a tight schedule, and missing a flight or onward connection because a tour ran long is a bad way to end the trip.

What you're skipping at this length

Three days means no Mazeri/Shdugra waterfall, no Tetnuldi sunset run, and no slower village days. If any of those matter to you more than a second big-ticket item on Day 3, swap it in — but don't try to fit two full excursions into one day here. The roads and the pace of this region don't reward rushing.

FAQ

Is 3 days enough for Svaneti?+

It's enough to see the highlight — Ushguli — plus one more experience, but it's a tight, arrival-day-included schedule. If you can stretch to 5 days, you'll have a much less rushed trip.

Should I fly or drive on a 3-day trip?+

Driving is more reliable — the small Mestia plane is often weather-cancelled, which is a real risk when you only have 3 days total. A transfer from Kutaisi (~4.5h) is the safer bet.
