📍 Khalde village, Kala community
🕐 Starts at 1:00 PM
On August 15, Khalde will host the traditional Haldeoba festival.
Visitors will enjoy a Svan corner and dishes from traditional Svan cuisine — all festival guests can sample these specialties free of charge.
The program also includes:
• Exhibition of historical photographs dedicated to the Khalde uprising; • Performances by the Mestia folk ensemble 'Riho' featuring unique Svan songs and traditional folk numbers.
Khalde holds a special place in the history of Svaneti.
In 1875–1876, following the residents' uprising against the tsarist administration, Russian troops destroyed the village almost to its foundations, and settlement in the area was prohibited. Surviving participants in the uprising were sentenced to lengthy hard labor or exile in Siberia.
Today, Haldeoba is not just a celebration, but a day of remembrance for events that became one of the most significant chapters in Svaneti's history.
The event is organized by the Mestia Municipality administration.
