🏔 MESTIA RANKS SECOND ON TIME OUT'S MOST PROMISING TRAVEL DESTINATIONS FOR 2027
Georgian media has been buzzing lately about British publication Time Out naming Mestia among the best travel destinations for 2027.
It's good news, but let's dig into who created this ranking and when.
On September 10, 2026, Time Out published an article about ten promising travel destinations for 2027. The list itself wasn't compiled by the magazine—it was prepared by international tour operator Intrepid Travel.
The ranking is called the Not Hot List 2027. It features destinations that haven't yet experienced the same tourist surge as famous global resorts, but absolutely deserve traveler attention.
And Mestia landed in second place, right after Samburu National Reserve in Kenya!
Why Svaneti?
The list creators highlight mountain landscapes, hiking opportunities, comparatively modest tourist numbers, and developing infrastructure.
The article offers an interesting comparison: the European Alps attract around 120 million visitors annually, while Mestia, according to the authors, welcomes fewer than 100,000.
It's precisely this relative obscurity that makes Svaneti attractive to travelers seeking destinations beyond mass tourism.
Of course, Svaneti hasn't been a secret to us. We watch how Mestia is changing, how roads are being built, new tourism facilities are appearing, and more visitors arrive each year.
But it's gratifying to see this small mountain region appearing more and more on the pages of international travel publications.
